Lake Mahopac Garden Club Mission Statement:
Lake Mahopac Garden Club donates to
World Gardening- Water for South Sudan

by Lucille Bauer  State World Gardening Chairman

This Chairman is pleased to report that our donation for 2014 totaled $16,864.72. It is with this wonderful support from our members that we are helping to eradicate disease, thirst and hunger, extreme poverty and child mortality in South Sudan.
Your donations bring clean, fresh water to tens of thousands of people, transforming life in their villages. Water wells mean those who gather water daily, usually woman and girls, no longer have to walk miles in temperatures that can reach over 120 degrees. They can consistently attend school or do other work which improves their livelihood.
As of February of 2015, 259 wells have been drilled in South Sudan to bring clean, safe water and hygiene education to their people. A new formal monitoring and evaluation process to ensure that all wells are operational and able to produce potable water has begun this year.
Goals for Water for South Sudan, Inc. for 2014-2015 are: Drill up to 40 new wells, train 8 new men and women in hygiene practices, in each village where they work, and continue the United Peace and Development Project.
On behalf of our 10 World Gardening District Chairman, we thank you for your continued support and commitment to Water for South Sudan. Please check out their web site for so much more information about this organization.
  Thank you.
